25 setembro 2024

The second stage of the Historic Rally of Portugal will connect Figueira da Foz and Viseu, passing through the famous stages of Arganil. The event, organized by the Automóvel Club de Portugal, brings 68 teams to a total route of 1,900 kilometers, including historic sections of the Rally of Portugal.

The Historic Rally of Portugal peloton will drive this Wednesday on some of the most famous roads in the Central region, in a stage connecting Figueira da Foz to Viseu. After the 68 competitors departed from Sintra yesterday, heading toward Figueira da Foz, today they will cover 259.82 kilometers to the city of Viriato, passing through the iconic Arganil area, one of the most famous locations of the Rally of Portugal, starting at 1:10 PM.

The arrival in Viseu, preceded by stops in Seia and Nelas, is expected at 7:30 PM, concluding a stage with 183.28 kilometers of regularity special stages.

Belgians leading the way

Yesterday, weather conditions made things difficult for the teams who started from Praia de Magoito, in Sintra, a municipality that will also host the finish of the event in the early hours of next Saturday morning.

After the final special stage of the day in Figueira da Foz (SS5), Belgian duo Ruben Maes and Yves Noelanders were leading the standings in their Porsche 914/6. Just 0.4 points behind the pair, in second place, were the record holders for the most wins in the event, compatriots Yves Deflandres and Jennifer Hugo (Porsche 911), followed by Frenchman Christophe Baillet, navigated by Jean-Marc Piret, in third place in another Porsche 911. The German car dominated the action in the first stage, and the best Portuguese team was in fourth place, José Carvalhosa and António Caldeira, driving yet another Porsche 911.

Considered one of the most important historic regularity rallies in Europe, the Historic Rally of Portugal features teams from nine countries and a pack of historic cars built between 1957 and 1990.
